Personal Branding Is NOT Hocus Pocus
Individual Branding Is NOT Hocus Pocus Individual Branding isnt about dark cap SEO strategies. It isnt an enchantment wand to fix joblessness either. It is a system for conveying the one of a kind arrangement of abilities, character and worth you convey as you navigate the slippery landscape of the new economy. Everything began with the well known article by Tom Peters in Fast Company The Brand Called You. But what does individual marking truly mean and for what reason is it significant? On the off chance that you read Tom Peters' article you will start to comprehend. Dont Fight It. It works! There are some vocation experts, scouts and different specialists that guarantee your own image doesn't make a difference. Perhaps the term is deceiving or isn't deciphered accurately. On the off chance that your own notoriety didn't make a difference, at that point for what reason would an inner competitor get recruited over outside applicants? For what reason would worker referrals be so significant? Can any anyone explain why CEO work postings sometimes, if at any time open up to the world? The appropriate responses lie in the intensity of somebody's very own image. Individual marking is substantially more than a smooth slogan or lift pitch; it is the explanation individuals land positions. Characterizing and Refining Personal Brand I made part in this weeks Job Move Day alongside more than 20 other vocation experts. This is Quintessential Careers fifth-yearly Job Action Day and it is devoted to engaging occupation searchers to make, manufacture, and improve their own profession brand. Miriam Salpeter and I have consolidated to make it increasingly satisfactory. VIV-id is the term we feel better epitomizes the quintessence of individual marking. It represents Virtual Individual Verified-id. Miriams post re-clarifies what individual marking is! There is a whole other world to this post so head on over to US News World Reports On Careers. Do you have an individual brand or do you think it is a fake idea?

7 Things Interviewers Must NOT Say During an Interview
7 Things Interviewers Must NOT Say During an Interview Are you currently interviewing candidates for the first time? Maybe youre worried about how to phrase a particular question without overstepping the mark or perhaps you simply want to make sure that your companys interview questions arent too imposing? Whether you are interviewing for the first time or would like a point of reference make sure you avoid any awkwardness by staying clear of the following topics: 1. I was looking at your Facebook profile and I noticed that Its no secret that many potential employers will research the interviewing candidate on social media and/or give them a quick google ahead of the interview and this is fine! However, steer clear of mentioning your findings or personal opinion about a candidate based on their social media presence. Not only is this a subjective opinion that you are forming its highly unlikely what they got up to last Saturday night has any correlation to their ability to perform the required tasks for the role which they applied for! 2. Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend? Aside from being completely unrelated and weird, this is an intrusive question and it can make candidates feel very uncomfortable! If you would like to make general conversation stay clear of anything that could be misinterpreted by the candidate interviewing and opt for safer questions about the weather or why not their plans for the rest of the day. 3. How would you manage in a team full of guys/girls? Whilst its obviously important to ensure that any potential hire will fit well into the current team dynamic make sure you avoid questions which highlight a candidates gender or personal characteristics. The fact that the candidate is female/male in a predominantly gender biased office doesnt impede their ability to do the job. Moreover, if you ask this question and the candidate doesnt get the job you are at risk of the candidate thinking that you made a sexist decision. 4. How much do you want to earn? As a candidate, having been asked this question during interview I cant help but feel like this is a ridiculous question! When asked, in my head I picture myself in my imaginary penthouse on the beach of course, everyone wants to earn as much as possible. Instead, based on the answers given by a candidate during the interview process you should be able to gauge how much the company can justify allocating towards the salary for this candidate against the general market. 5. Iâm interviewing another X people this week for the same job; why should I hire you? Aside from the fact that youre asking a candidate to compare themselves to people which they know nothing about its a very awkwardly phrased question which could easily rub a candidate up the wrong way. Instead, ask them (based on your conversation/their communication about the responsibilities of the job role) how their experience and personal traits could add value to the organisation. From this answer, you can personally make comparisons between the answers which they give and the answers given by other candidates throughout the process. 6. Do you have any problems going out drinking with the office on Fridays? Whether office drinks are part of your work culture or not it shouldnt matter whether someone likes to go out for a drink on a Friday as it has no bearing on their ability to do the job they are interviewing for. Ensuring that there is a good, diverse team will mean that your workforce will have mixed interests and skill sets but these should complement each other. The easiest way to compare this to real life is to think of your office team as a football team whilst it would be great to have a Lionel Messi, if you had 11 Lionels and no defensive players / goalkeeper your team would have a fundamental defence problem! Instead of directly asking a candidate about work drinks, make sure that during the interview you highlight the company culture and any other (non-drink related) perks/incentives. 7. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years? This is why this question is ineffective how many people can truly say that they are in exactly the position/role/walk of life which they envisaged this long ago? Its highly unlikely that you are going to be able to effectively estimate economic change and the impact that this will have on the need to evolve in the industry. All the candidate is going to be able to answer in a roundabout way is that they want to be as successful as possible or theyll throw a textbook high-flying job title at you. Youd hope that youd be able to gauge from the previous answers given throughout the process whether this candidate has a genuine drive to do well. Instead ask them an open question about their career goals and how they think that this role would help them to reach those goals. Whether a candidate is successful or not you want them to enjoy the experience and leave the interview process feeling like your company is one that they would like to work for, whether thats now or in the future. Bad interview practice doesnt bode well for a companys reputation, especially with online review sites like Glassdoor at the candidates fingertips in an age where the importance of a companys online brand is only ever increasing! Make sure you represent your brand in the best possible way by conducting a professional interview, stay away from personal questions and couple it with detailed constructive interview feedback and timely responses.

How Long Should Your Interview Answer Be - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
How Long Should Your Interview Answer Be - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Iâm not sure whether youâre like me. Iâve stopped reading! I read no more. I skim and browse and hover over the surface of words, and when I find something interesting, only then do I dig in and absorb the content. Nowadays, because of ubiquitous electronic media, you can immediately suffocate from constant immersion in more information than you could ever deal with. Why is it that everyoneâs suddenly become so prolific? Twitter came up with the brightest idea of all: 140 characters. Period. The answer to the question is because itâs so much easier to write in abundance versus to write eloquently and succinctly. Try this: think of a noun and describe it as if youâve been asked to write a dictionary definition for it. Now look up the word in the dictionary, and read what the dictionary says. Have I made my point? So, how does this apply to job seekers? Hiring decisions are being made during the interview. The hiring manager asks questions, and the candidate answers the questions, but ofteninstead of giving a short summarythe candidate thinks this is the time for a lengthy answer, including the whens, hows, whys, why nots, and so on. The answer becomes an endless rambling that ends in complete failure. The candidate is not happy after realizing what happened, and the interviewer lost the candidate because of a much, much shorter attention span. Both parties lost. This is not a good answer. The only way to create a win-win situation in an interview is for candidates to be prepared with short answers to a variety of job-related questions. And practice, practice, practice. Know why? Because practice makes perfect!

You a WIIFM Career Coach JobJenny
You a WIIFM Career Coach JobJenny Have you ever walked into a first interview and, at your very first opportunity, asked one or more of these questions? What's the salary? What does your benefits package look like?Do you have dental? Optical? What about the 401(k)?How much vacation would I get? Do you also have personal time? How many paid holidays are there?Do you reimburse for college tuition?Do I get a company discount on x, y, z products?Do you give me a company car? A cell phone? A laptop? What's in it for me? Me? Me? Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee? If you have, stop it. Don't do this at a first interview. Never, ever, ever.Don't be a WIIFM candidate.Of course you want to know these things (duh). And of course they will matter if that company extends you an offer, and you thenneed to consider the overall package. But at the first interview? You need to think about what hiring managers and HR people really care about.Ready for it?They want to know what's in it for THEM.They want to know how you will add value, solve their pr oblems, make them money, save them money, make their lives easier, more productive, more pleasant, BETTER.They want to know what you bring to the table, and why they should consider you over the gajillion other candidates falling over themselves for that very same position. So as tempting as it may be to get right to the bottom of the what's in it for you part?Save this discussion for after it's clear that the prospective employer wants you, needs you, will do what it takes to have you.In the early interview stages? Think WIIFT instead. What is in it for them if they hire you? Showcase this.

Eat That Frog! 21 Ways To Stop Procrastinating And Get More Done In Less Time (Book Review)
Eat That Frog! 21 Ways To Stop Procrastinating And Get More Done In Less Time (Book Review) An English poet by the name of Edward Young once said,âProcrastination is the thief of time: Year after year it steals, âtil all are fled, and to the mercies of a moment leaves the vast concerns of an eternal scene.âThis may sound a bit dramatic to some of you, but in all reality, procrastination is a real killer. How many times have you sworn up and down you were going to do something, but when it came time to put in work you decided it wasnâtthe right time or you just didnât feel like it?I know Iâve done this more times than I can count.evalMark Twain said that if you wake up each morning and eat a frog, youâll most likely have the satisfaction of knowingthatwill be the worst thing to happen to you all day.Photo Credit â" Amazon.comIn reality, your âfrogâ is your most important task of the day that you are most likely to put off. On days where you have more than one frog, the rule is to eat the ugliest one first. This book â" Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy â" has given me great tools that I use daily to make sure my frogs get eaten.Goal SettingevalWhen you write out your goals, it has an amazing impact on your thought process. Having your goals visible on paper makes them clearer in your mind and more achievable to your subconscious. You should be thinking about your goals and review them every day in order to keep yourself motivated and determined to accomplish them.Plan out every day in advance with an action list on how you are going to eat your biggest frog immediately, and then keep going. You should always be working from a list and when something new comes up, it should be added to the list before it gets done.Different Kinds of ListsIf you wrote down everything you wanted to accomplish on one list and tried to work off that, youâd probably get overwhelmed. Thatâs why the author categorizes things using different lists. There is a master list, a monthly list, a weekly list, and a daily list. The master list is where you write down every single thing you want to get done in the future.evalYour monthly list should be made at the end of each month to plan out your next 30 days. You want to be transferring items from the master list to your monthly lists according to your overall goals.Following suit from the monthly list, your weekly list is made at the end of each week to plan the following week. Tasks get transferred from the monthly list to the weekly list as new weeks come, and tasks from your weekly list will then be put on your daily list that you should be making at the end of each day.I personally only have a master list and a daily list because thatâs what works best for me, but different people need different things. The ABCDE MethodWhen you have tasks you need to accomplish, they obviously need to be prioritized and this method is a great way of doing so. Use A, B, C, D, and E to put an order to your lists.evalâAâ should be put next to anything that is important andneedsto get done. This task wil l either have a serious positive impact when finished or consequence if not.âBâ goes next to the tasks youshoulddo. These still hold some level of importance, but will not have any severe consequences if not accomplished. Then, of course, âCâ would be placed next to the tasks that you wouldliketo do, holding zero consequence if not done.âDâ in this scenario stands for âDelegate.â These are the tasks you can ask or tell someone else to do for you so you can free up time for the Aâs, Bâs, and Câs.Finally, âEâ stands for âEliminate.â Iâm sure no explanation is required there.Getting StartedOnce you have your lists completed, itâs time to get some shit done. After you know what task you are about to take care of, get in a comfortable workspace and rid yourself of any distractions.Put everything youneedin front of you to accomplish whatever it is you are about to do. Everything else can be put on the floor or in another room if necessary. Now get it done! Final ThoughtsevalBefore reading this book, I honestly had a lot of things on a lot of to-do lists and I felt very unorganized and overwhelmed. I now only have the two lists, master and daily, and because of that, I find it so much easier to plan out my goals and therefore get so much more done. The book itself has some fluff to it, but itâs a fairly short read and the overall idea of eating the frog is a great tool for getting your life in order and putting an end to the procrastination.evalIf you are someone who does have issues with taking care of business when business needs to be taken care of, I think this book will be a big help.
